YOU CAN KNOW WHAT IT’S LIKE TO LOSE YOUR HEAD!

This is just so bizarre I couldn’t even begin to imagine the horror.

Seattle Pi writes:

Imagine yourself with your head in the business end of a guillotine. I know, it’s not the most pleasant of thoughts, but the guillotine was once considered a humane way to kill someone: Just a quick slice and you’re flat-out dead.

But researchers are finding that neurons, the cells that make up the brain, are active even after their blood supply is suddenly cut off. And they may show activity for longer than a minute, according to a Science News report.

So, imagine yourself in the guillotine again. Once that big blade comes swooshing down and your head rolls away, are you still aware? Could you see the world around you? Might you actually experience the horrific reality that is your head removed from your body – for a minute or more?

In an arguably not-so-humane study, Dutch scientists measured the brain activity in mice after slicing off the mice’s heads. What they saw was a quick flash of brain activity immediately following decapitation – then, about 50 seconds later, another ripple of activity, Science News reports.

SIBERIAN LIVESTOCK DRAINED OF BLOOD BY VAMPIRE?

Between this current and past reports, there has got to be a vampire-like creature we’re missing out there somewhere.

The Moscow News writes:

A blood-sucking creature is preying upon goats near Novosibirsk. As rational explanations run thin on the ground, the specter of the so-called chupacabra raises its demon head.

Horrified farmers and smallholders are confronted by the drained corpses of their livestock in the morning, bloodless and bearing puncture marks to the neck but otherwise largely in tact.

But local cops are reluctant to record apparent vampire attacks, as they await official recertification, leaving the locals up in arms.

More mojo in your little finger…

Old sketch of Doc RavencraftI know someone who is much more than he will allow himself to be.  As I think about it, I know a number of people like that.  They are people who look at what is going on the world and they just curl up into a ball and wish that someone would come and fix things for them.  You tell them that they get to pick the color of their glasses (I like mine rose-colored myself) and they look at you and say “That’s all good for you, but it doesn’t work that way for me.”

Did you hear that?  They look at me and explain that their view of the world is that stuff like that doesn’t happen to them, and they are right!  Drives me crazy.  Of course, these are the same people that come back later asking me if I can send a little mojo their way to help them with this or that.  Usually it’s not something that really needs my help.  It’s something that they could do themselves, but they fear it somehow, and I sometimes lack the stamina to hand out tough love.

It saddens me terribly to see people driven by so much fear today.  It’s especially sad when I can see the power that people have.  I can see it, but I can’t make people use it.  I can’t make them talk about themselves and their world in positive terms rather than always giving power to the negative things.  I can’t make people trust themselves and their ability to get through something rather than waiting for someone to tell them that it’s safe.  Ha!  It’s never safe!  Plans go awry; mistakes are made; plans fall apart… and every single one of those things leads you to the next thing… but with you walking your path, not shivering in the shadow of others!

OK.  I’ve gotten a little excited here.  I’ll calm down a bit.  What I want to tell you —  yes, you — is that you’ve got more mojo in your little finger than those worldly fears have in their entire being.  You — yes, I’m still talking about you — can shape the world by your thoughts and your words.  Now, don’t be stupid and expect to close your eyes and open them as a hip-hop star with gold records.  You always start from where you are.  Also, a picture like that is pretty immature.  That’s something you’d see on a TV show.  Do you really want to be that person, or do you want to have a happy life, with your material needs fulfilled, spending every day using your creativity, surrounded by people who appreciate your gifts?  Maybe that looks like the gold-covered guy in the L.A. mansion.  Maybe not.  Maybe your reality — once realized — is even better.

So, universe rearranging 101 (and I’m not the only one who says this… it’s always worked like this):

  • Stop talking about what you don’t want and start talking about what you do want. — Stop saying things like “I wish my boss didn’t treat me like a slave.” and start saying things like “I wish my boss respected my time.” Everyone and everything follows your lead.  If you keep bringing up viewing everything in negative terms, you will be right.  Stop sending that garbage out there and send out the stuff that you want.
  • There is always another option and the choice is always yours. — This is a tough one.  When you are used to being pushed around by circumstances, you imagine that there is no way out of the things you fear.  There is always a way out, but you must choose it.  There is always a cost associated with that choice.  You may suffer some inconvenience or lose friends, possessions, or get out of your comfort zone, but it is up to you to take action or not.  So, if your job makes you physically ill, leave it.  If you complain about the place that you live, move.  If the people around you depress you, get away from them.  What will happen when you do something?  Who knows?  Whatever it is, it will be better than the rot that you are experiencing now.  Use that mojo in your little finger to start some motion.
  • Pay attention to the good stuff. — This should be easy, but it seems it’s not.  When good things happen to you, acknowledge them.  Why?  Because otherwise you will forget them as you go back to your list of evil.  Good things can be simple… you woke up this morning and you weren’t dead…. you found a decent parking place… there’s a 2-for one coupon on your favorite food… anything!  When something good happens I like to say “Stuff like that happens to me.” I find that as I’ve started saying that, it has become more and more true.  Maybe it was always true and I wasn’t paying attention.  Hmmmm?  Paying attention will prove to you that your mojo is doing something… even if it’s just little ripples that are building into waves.
  • Express gratitude. — While you are acknowledging the good stuff, say “Thank you.”  Whom shall you thank?  Everyone!  When the traffic breaks just when you need it to, thank God or the universe or however you envision the larger forces that make things go.  If that break in traffic came from the person behind you, give a wave and think “Thank you, nice traffic person.” Look at different ways to express your thanks to people in everyday life.  Get them a cup of coffee when you go to the break room.  Write them a little sticky-note.  There must be a hundred different on-line sites to send a free electronic card.  I hear that stores still sell Thank You cards.  Make gratitude a part of your life because that sends your mojo back into the universe.  It takes the good that you’ve gotten and spreads it around, if only as a happy energy.

I can hear some of you grumbling about this “motivational crap.”  Where’s the real power?  Ha!  Those are people that I’ll probably have to dress a candle for later.  The truth is, the real power is in making the things that are in our head manifest out here where we can touch them.  That’s what it’s all about.  It can be grand and elaborate, with lots of candles and incense — and if that helps, there is nothing wrong with doing that work.  It can also start to happen right there in your head.

Ahhhhh… there you go.  Now you’re looking at that little finger, and you’re staring to wonder…  Ha!  Go for it!

WORLDS MOST WICKED BIKE!

I’ve wanted a nice motorcycle for a while. I’ve been looking at all kinds of different styles and decided I wanted something simple, elegant and classy. Now, I want a crazy dragon bike that shoots fire after seeing what’s possible from this guy!

Dailymail.co.uk writes:

This remarkable motorbike looks like it’s straight out of a film set – but remarkably an artist has made it out of spare parts.

The Bangkok worker used recycled materials from old cars and bicycles to create a monster machine which is sculpted to look like a beast.

Despite being cobbled together from scrap parts, the spectacular motorcycle works – unlike many sci-fi film props.

Roongrojna Sangwongprisarn, 54, created it out of spare parts in his workshop in Thailand. He has four shops across the country – named the Ko Art Shop – and exports his creations to clients all over the world.

MYSTERY TOMBSTONE PREDICTS MANS DEATH!

Now this is a bit creepy…

Dailymail.co.uk writes:

Residents in a California community are scratching their heads after a mysterious tombstone appeared in front of a condominium complex, predicting an unknown man’s death.

Not unlike many other headstones honouring the dead, the grave marker reads: ‘Loving Husband Father and Physician Jeffrey Lang.’

But in a chilling twist some guess is a practical joke, Mr Lang’s year of death is inscribed as 2012.

PLANET OF THE APES IS A REAL POSSIBILITY!

I already feel like this life we’re in is a giant movie anyways, this is just further proof we need to stop everything, chill out and relax.

Dailymail.co.uk writes:

It sounds like something from a Hollywood science fiction film: a race that is half human, half ape.

But leading scientists are today demanding tough new rules to prevent the nightmare scenario becoming a reality.

In a hard-hitting report, they warn  that research is close to pushing ‘ethical boundaries’ and that extreme attempts to  give laboratory animals human attributes must be banned.

Professor Martin Bobrow, a medical geneticist at Cambridge University and co-author of the report, said society needed to set rules before scientists began experiments that the public would find unacceptable.

He added: ‘We are trying to get this out in the open before anything has happened.’

THE FUTURE IS HERE! A FLYING SPHERE IS REALITY!

It’s only a matter of time until this technology is applied to a vehicle that can seat a human being!

Dailymail.co.uk writes:

Its Japanese developers call it the ‘Futuristic Circular Flying Object’ and it’s designed to go where humans can’t.

The radio-controlled sphere, roughly the size of a basketball, was built for search and rescue operations, specifically to fly in and out of buildings weakened by earthquakes or other natural disasters.

The device uses its onboard camera to transmit live images of whatever it sees.

Fumiyuki Sato, at the Japanese Defense Ministry’s Technical Research and Development Institute, invented and built the vehicle for roughly 110,000 yen (£865 / $1,390) with parts purchased off the shelf at consumer electronics stores.

He said: ‘Because of its spherical shape, it can land in various positions and tumble to move around the ground.’

It zips through the air, glides smoothly around corners, and negotiates staircases with ease, all the while emitting a soft hum.

SKIER JUMPS OFF 250FT CLIFF, ON PURPOSE!

Now, I’ve done a few extreme sports in my time but this is on a whole other level. This dude jumps off the craziest cliffs he can find only to land in a pile of snow, that’s it! How crazy?!

Dailymial.co.uk writes:

This is the moment a professional skier defied death – plummeting 250 foot down a cliff edge to seemingly land on his head.

Amazingly Jamie Pierre walked away from the intentional stunt without so much as a scratch after being dug out of the six foot ‘bomb hole’ by his photographer.

Mr Pierre, a professional skier, revealed the secret behind his apparently suicidal stunt.

He said: ‘Although it looks like I landed on my head, I actually landed on my back.

‘I was bent at the waist and landed how a stuntman would land on an air bag.’

Snow joke: This time-lapse photo shows Jamie Pierre's world record-breaking, death-defying 250ft descent where he survives even after apparently landing on his head

WORLD RECORD FOR MOST FINGERS AND TOES!

As much as we see and hear of weirds things from the past, here’s something from right now.

Huffingtonpost.com writes:

Count’em up. This young man born with 34 fingers and toes set a Guinness World Record for most digits.

Akshat Saxena had seven fingers on each hand and 10 toes on each foot when he was born in India in 2010, a Guinness spokeswoman told The Huffington Post.

“I was so happy to see my baby as it was our first child,” his mother Amrita Saxena told NDTV. “But later, when I saw his fingers, I was shocked and surprised.”

Doctors recently amputated the excess appendages in a series of surgeries and now Saxena has the typical five digits per limb, the Guinness spokeswoman said.

This prodigious polydactyl wasn’t born with thumbs, but doctors planned to create them with pieces of the extra figners, The Hindustan Times reported.

MALNOURISHED MONKEY MISTAKEN FOR ALIEN!

What would you do if this thing was stealing your fruit?

Dailymail.co.uk writes:

This ape made a monkey of Chinese villagers who feared it was a visitor from another world.

Locals panicked when Mao Xiping, a housewife from the village of Gezhai, in Henan province, central China, found the scraggy simian stealing cucumbers from her flat.

She thought it was a harmless rabbit, until she noticed it had an ‘alien face’ and her neighbours agreed it was like nothing they had ever seen before.

ATLANTIS FOUND OFF OF THE COAST OF SPAIN!

Maybe, we can finally get some answers to all those questions we’ve been asking for so long. Who lived there? What was the cities purpose? What caused it and it’s people to disappear and was the entire thing a giant spaceship that just one day took off into space?

MSNBC writes:

Atlantis, the legendary metropolis believed swamped by a tsunami thousands of years ago, in mud flats in southern Spain.

“This is the power of tsunamis,” head researcher Richard Freund told Reuters.

“It is just so hard to understand that it can wipe out 60 miles inland, and that’s pretty much what we’re talking about,” said Freund, a professor at the University of Hartford who led an international team searching for the true site of Atlantis.

To solve the age-old mystery, the team analyzed satellite imagery of a suspected submerged city just north of Cadiz, Spain. There, buried in the vast marshlands of the Dona Ana Park, they believe that they pinpointed the ancient, multiringed dominion known as Atlantis.

WORLDS FIRST STREET-LEGAL BATMOBILE!

Casey Putsch spent five months painstakingly piecing together the amazing replica car using everything from aerospace materials to polycarbonate.

But his favourite feature on the incredible bat car is a military spec turbine engine used in a drone helicopter by the Navy to drop torpedoes on enemy submarines.

UFO IS FOUND USING GOOGLE EARTH!

Wow, someone just stumbled upon this image of a UFO over Cape Town, Africa using Google Earth! What else haven’t we found out there, maybe monsters in the oceans?

I know what I’m doing this evening.

Unexplained-mysteries.com writes:

It isn’t clear what the object is or if it is a genuine image, further analysis suggests a second UFO may be present in the upper left however it isn’t as clear. Has Google caught something unexplained with its cameras or is there a more down to earth explanation ?

MAN RISES FROM THE DEAD

In Victorian times, people were terrified of being buried alive.  Elaborate devices were designed (and sold) to help alert people if a soul was unfortunate enough to wake up buried in their coffin.  Fortunately, medical technology has advanced so that we we have a number of ways to detect life.  The days of someone being accidentally buried alive are behind us… or are they?

In Eastern Cape, South Africa, a man woke up to find himself on the cold, steel of an examining table.  His family took him to the private mortuary when they could not wake him on a Saturday and presumed him dead.  He had been there for 24 hours when he frightened the attendants, asking to be let out of the chilly room.

The gentleman was taken to hospital and did not need further treatment.  The South African medical community urges families to consult with a doctor before presuming that someone is dead.

MAN CLAIMS ‘NESSIE’ PHOTOGRAPHED AFTER 45 YEAR HUNT

Is it you, Nessy? A possible hump and part of a tail, or perhaps a spike on the creature's back, can be seen breaking the surface of the water near Fort Augustus, Scotland

It seems like after a rash of recent Bigfoot sightings and videos, now we are seeing a deluge of sea monster stories, photos and videos. Here’s the latest story from a man who claims to have spent his life searching for Nessie, and he now believes he has finally caught her on film.

At first glance it looks like another dark ripple on the water.

But study the photograph more closely and a dark hump and tail can be seen poking through the water’s surface, or so a life-long hunter of the Loch Ness monster hunter claims.

William Jobes, 62, believes that he may have at last captured the elusive creature on camera after 45 years of trying.

Mr Jobes was walking along the Abbey footpath in Fort Augustus with his wife Joan in May this year when he spotted what appeared to be a head bobbing above the water 200 to 300 yards from the shore.

Misty morning: Loch Ness monster hunter William Jobes, 62, is certain that the black mark 200 - 300 yards from the shore is the body of the elusive creature

‘I had a wonderful shock,’ Mr Jobes said.’I have actually been coming up to Inverness for the past 45 years and I have never seen anything like this before.’

Quickly grasping his camera, Mr Jobes from Irvine in Ayrshire, managed to take a single picture before the ‘head’ disappeared under the surface.

However, to his delight a dark, hump-like shape broke the waves and he was able to take more photographs of the apparent sighting on May 24 at just after 11.10am.

Mr Jobes is convinced it was not a seal or piece of wood.

‘To be honest I know the difference between a piece of wood or a particular animal,’ he said.

‘I immediately did think it was a seal but it’s head was like a sheep.’

However, veteran Nessie hunter Steve Feltham, remains sceptical, although he admits the hump photograph cannot be immediately explained and is worth further investigation.

‘The river comes out there and something large could have come down the river and flowed out there,’ he suggested.

Mr Jobes’ is the second potential sighting of nessie so far this summer.

Last month Foyers shop and cafe owner Jan Hargreaves and her husband Simon believe they caught a glimpse of the creature.

BRITISH COUPLE FINDS ‘SEA MONSTER’ CARCASS ON SHORE

Now, I would NOT want to find this thing alive in the ocean, it’s scary enough being dead and looking like this! Any guesses to what it could be? Read on for some theories.

Cryptomundo.com writes:

A couple were left shocked when they discovered the rotting body of a sea monster while walking along a beach.

Margaret and Nick Flippence made the incredible find as they exercised their dogs at Bridge of Don, Aberdeen.

Mr Flippence, 59, who lives nearby, said: ‘We were stunned. I thought, “oh my God what is it?”

‘It’s like nothing we have ever seen, it almost looks pre-historic,’ he told the Sun.

Curled up by the foot of sand dunes was the 30ft-long body of the unidentified animal with head, tail and teeth all discernible.

ARTISTS GROWS “LIVING” SCULPTURES W/ HUMAN TISSUE

Now, this gives a new meaning to “living art”! Let’s try to get one of these pieces into the Museum Of The Weird, it would be right at home “living” among our other oddities! Sorry, couldn’t help myself.

Wired.com writes:

When artist Oron Catts has to murder a living sculpture he has painstakingly raised by hand, he doesn’t really mind: He can always grow a fresh one. Catts, cofounder of the SymbioticA Centre of Excellence in Biological Arts at the University of Western Australia, is known for culturing living cells into a variety of shapes (like Extra Ear, above). But since the cells, which feed on a slurry of nutrients and fetal-cow serum, are not part of a body with an immune system, they’re vulnerable to disease and infection; they must be kept in sterile glass or plastic chambers to maintain proper pH and temperature. When an exhibition ends, Catts sometimes opens the habitat and lets onlookers dispatch the sculpture with the poison of their bacteria-laden touch. Fifteen years ago, Catts was lucky to find a biologist willing to teach him the techniques needed to make his works. These days, SymbioticA offers residencies and workshops to artists who focus on the living world the way others blow glass or make prints. One of Catts’ pieces is slated for resurrection in China this summer. Life goes on and on.

What are all the hunters looking for?

Old sketch of Doc RavencraftI remember when an interest in the paranormal was something to be hidden away. “Watch out for that Ravencraft boy. He’s a little strange.”  The occult — a world which means “secret knowledge” by the way — was something to be sought in strange little book stores, or the remote regions of the local library while people eyed you carefully over the tops of their glasses.  It was not spoken of except with people you could trust.

So what do we have now?  People running around trying to “capture” ghosts.  I’ve seen contests offering free T-shirts and a chance to be on a real ghost hunt.  I’ve spoken to someone who was looking to move from the library to the field and her first concern was what to call the group!  Ye gods!

I suppose that I should have some gratitude that the popularity of books like Harry Potter (and the myriad of books that are tapping into this magical interest) and TV shows about hauntings and the paranormal have moved some of this out of the closet and into the street.  But maybe some of it ought to go back into the closet!  I am genuinely concerned that people who will get all up in arms about things like a Ouija board (Yes, I got all of your notes telling me I was on my way to the fiery regions of hell, thank you very much.) will think nothing about going face-to-face with the unseen world armed with nothing more than the cheapest video camera they could afford.  And they aren’t content to simply observe and report.  Some of them have taken their cues from the boneheads on TV and are calling these things out.  Do you have any idea what a malevolent being could do to you if you get him good and pissed off?

I’ve never been much for the gadgets.  I’m a little curious about some of the ghost radio sorts of things.  I have a little “Shack Hack” that was made for me by a friend, but I haven’t done much with it.  I think that if your connection with the spirits relies on having enough batteries, then you’ve missed it altogether.  That world has been rubbing up against ours since the beginning of time.  Our forefathers seemed to find ways to make sense of it without help from Sony.

So what is the goal of all of these people running around trying to flush out the paranormal?  A lot of them seem to think that there is money to be made.  Ha!  I’ve known many a rich charlatan, but rarely a wealthy wizard.  I suppose that the research and experimentation interferes with quality T-shirt design.  Maybe a lot of them are genuinely curious, but the noisy ones have made everyone feel like it’s all part of the game.

Steve, the owner of the museum, has agreed to let me experiment with the entities that he has in the building.  I know of at least one that seems to be tied to the human skeleton he has on display.  (Strangely, the mummy doesn’t seem to be bothered.  Maybe there was something to all that effort preparing someone for Tuat — “Heaven” for you Bible thumpers.)  There is also a good deal to draw upon in that whole area of the city.  Perhaps I’ll sit some of you explorers down for a good old fashioned approach to talking to the ghosts.  If it will make you feel better maybe I’ll let Steve design a T-Shirt and sell tickets.

I guess what I’m really on about here is that if you are a seeker, then know what you are seeking.  Don’t just jump out there to see what will jump back.  Look at some of the knowledge that people have accumulated on these subjects for the past several hundred years and consider that they might know something that could be useful to you on your quest.  Perhaps even consider that the search for the hidden can happen quietly and peacefully with results that show you personally that there are connections, as opposed to ooing and ahhing over little glowy things in your photographs.  Go curl up with some Hans Holtzer (may he rest in peace) and see what that gets you.  Then come with me and we’ll walk quietly through the curtain together.  The Museum knows where to find me.

CADBOROSAURUS FOOTAGE SET TO BE REVEALED TONIGHT!

If you’ve been following us for a while, you may remember the following story we posted from August 15th of last year:

… Loren Coleman, world-renowned cryptozoologist and resident blogger at cryptomundo.com, reported on this incredible breaking news: supposedly up to 15 of the mysterious sea serpent-like cryptids known as  Cadborosaurus have been filmed, and the footage will be broadcast on the Discovery Channel… (you can read his post here and the link to the original story here).

Loren was understandably wary in his blog, raising the possibility that it may in fact be otters.

But today, fellow cryptozoologist John Kirk has posted there that he himself was able to view the footage and makes the following claim:

“…I must say I was stunned because it looked like a living breathing version of the famed Naden Harbour carcass obtained in 1937… I can fairly confidently say that readers will find this footage fascinating…”

I’m excited but cautious regarding this news from our friends at cryptomundo.com. I guess just like everyone else we’ll just have to wait with baited breath!

Well that long-awaited show, officially titled “Alaskan Monster Hunt: Hillstranded” finally airs tonight on Discovery Channel (10pm EST/9pm CST). I’m surprised there hasn’t been more fanfare prior to the airing of the show, considering how important this footage is actually supposed to be. In any case, I’ve set my DVR and am anxiously awaiting seeing the footage.

BEE-WEARING CONTEST IN CHINA!

How would you like to be a part of THIS tradition?

This might be your worst nightmare, but in Shaoyang, China, it’s just part of an annual tradition.

The annual bee-wearing contest didn’t exactly attract a swarm of entrants, but two Chinese apiarists competed to see who could attract the most bugs to their bodies in an hour-long contest, the BBC reported.

Contenstants wore nothing but shorts, goggles, and nose plugs, and stood on a scales so that the weight of the bees could be calculated.

Each contestant attracted the bees by locking a queen bee in a small cage and tying it to his body.

The victor? 42-year old Wang Dalin, who added about 52 pounds of bees to his frame

TWO-HEADED BEARDED DRAGON CELEBRATES IT’S…ERR, THEIR FIRST BIRTHDAY!

What do you get the two-headed, six-legged bearded dragon who has everything?

Well, everything it needs, anyway.

For Todd Ray, who actually owns such a creature — a reptile he calls “Pancho and Lefty” — the answer was found in a lookalike pinata.

Yep, you read that correctly: A giant pinata that looks like his beloved pet two-headed, six-legged bearded dragon.

Pancho and Lefty turned 1 back in May, but Ray, who runs the Venice Beach Freakshow in Los Angeles, is celebrating the big day on June 11 with a big shindig fit for, well, a two-headed, six-legged bearded dragon.

“These are literally the rarest animals in the world,” Ray told AOL Weird News, and he should know. He has the largest collection of two-headed animals around, more than 100 specimens including 22 living creatures.

Ray has been collecting double-domed animals for the past 10 years and exhibiting them publicly for six. He considers it a calling.
